The protagonist, Toshio, was the heir apparent to the head of the Japanese dance school ‘Suigetsu-ryu’. But his father had passed away long ago, and Suigetsu-ryu's finances were deteriorating. Feeling responsible, his mother committed suicide after Toshio returned home. The one who offered Toshio a helping hand was Saori Kaminagi, the current head of the Kaminagi-ryu school. Kaminagi-ryu had once been part of Suigetsu-ryu but had since split off.
