Game Description

HELLGATE is a massive, ground-up total conversion project that transforms Night of Revenge from a linear action-platformer into a deep, unforgiving, and highly dynamic 2D side-scrolling dark RPG. The original game is included in the download. HellGate is currently under active development.
Installation & Launch Guide

Extraction
Extract the archive to any drive so that NightofRevenge.exe, BepInEx, and sources stay in the same folder.
Use a short path (e.g. C:\Games\Night of Revenge\). Avoid Desktop / Downloads — mods run more stably that way.

First Launch
Launch the game and pick your language.
You can later change language, Gore, and Easy / Medium / Hard from splash Options (restart required).

Important Loading Note
The first launch takes time. After the Unity splash, do not click or press anything — loading is about 1 to 1.5 minutes.

Tip: Check the Readme and Manifesto files (HELLGATE_MANIFESTO) to tweak the configuration to your playstyle.

Walkthrough and Guide

Guide:

BASIC CONTROLS


  • LMB (Left Click): Basic Attack (3-hit combo).​


  • RMB (Right Click): BLOCK. Yes, it exists! It works in mid-air. On the EASY preset, holding RMB completely blocks all enemy grabs. Use it!​

  • BLOCK (RMB) + W (Up): PARRY. Timed perfectly with an enemy's attack, this deflects the hit.


    • Pro-tip: You can parry ranged attacks (arrows, axes) and even magic!​


    • Vengeance Strike: After a successful parry, approach the stunned enemy and press E to execute a massive counter-attack (costs 15 Rage, max Rage is 100).​




  • F Key: DODGE. Gives you invincibility frames (i-frames). On EASY, it costs only 20 stamina. Use it to dodge those axes!​


  • T Key: Tactical Bullet-Time. Slows down time but consumes Rage and increases Mind Break per second.​

  • G Key: RAGE MODE. There are 3 tiers of Rage visible on your UI:


    • Tier 1 (5s): Up to a 9-hit attack combo.​


    • Tier 2 (10s): Up to a 9-hit combo. Idle for 5s triggers passive Mind Break growth. Allows you to instantly break free from any grab!​


    • Tier 3 (15s): Demon wings appear, up to a 9-hit combo. Idle for 5s triggers passive Mind Break. Allows you to instantly break free from any grab!​


    • Crucial Note: While any Rage tier is active, you cannot be knocked down or grabbed. However, if you are grabbed *before* activating it, your Rage bar will rapidly drain!​




  • V Key: Combat Camera. Cycle through 2 zoom-out modes to see far ahead.​


  • H Key: Faction Relations Menu. Shows your standing with various factions and your current offspring count.​


FACTION RELATIONSHIPS
There are two main ways to raise your standing with enemy factions so they stop aggroing:


  1. MERCY (The pacifist way): Successfully dodge an enemy attack to trigger the "Avoid" prompt. Then, stay close to that enemy without attacking them until the Mercy gauge disappears. This gives you +5% Relationship with their faction.​


  2. H-SCENES (The submissive way): Let them have their way with you. Over time, they will grow to "love" you.​


Note: Factions stop attacking you entirely once you reach +68% relationship. However, if your standing is between 69% and 96% and you accidentally hit them, it will be treated as a provocation, making them aggressive for 15-25 seconds.

THE STRUGGLE SYSTEM: HOW TO BREAK FREE
ATTENTION: You can only struggle when you see the red "STRUGGLE OUT" text in the top-center of your screen!
